This week, the Gál Ferenc University is organising its freshmen camp for the freshmen of all four faculties – the faculties of Békéscsaba, Gyula, Szarvas and Szeged – on the campus of Békéscsaba. The Harry Potter-themed freshers’ camp, which will run over several days, was opened on Monday in the library of the Békéscsaba campus. The upperclassmen wished the freshmen to enjoy every minute of the coming years, as they fly by at the speed of light.
Dr. Ferenc Janka, Vice-Rector of the Gál Ferenc University (GFU), started with a quote that the task of art is not to satisfy needs, but to awaken them. He believes that this is what education is all about: meeting the needs of a region, employers, parents and students, but he believes that an institution of higher education can do more than that, it can make people demanding. He spoke about the importance of lifelong learning, that it is not enough to aim for the minimum, that there is a joy in learning. In addition to learning, it is also important to educate, and she believes that the freshers’ camp is a step in this direction. He wished that the freshers’ camp would be fun, enjoyable and that the freshers would meet the values that GFE offers.

Dr. Gábor Vincze, Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of the Gál Ferenc University in Gyula, emphasized that the social and health care field has been valorized in recent times. There is a strong tradition of training in Gyula, and students can learn the profession in institutions of national renown in the city. As for the freshers’ camp, he said that a nucleus is being forged here, which will carry the others with it. He wished the freshmen to love their time together, to love Gyula, where they are learning a vocation.

They are about to embark on some of the best years of their lives, and they will get all the help they need to make it happen,” said Dr. Zoltán Árpási, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Gál Ferenc University in Békéscsaba, welcoming the freshmen from four faculties. He noted that the freshers’ camp is all about team-building and, following the Harry Potter theme, he explained where to find things on campus, such as Professor Dumbledore’s office, the Chamber of Secrets, the Forbidden City and the quidditch pitch.
