On November 8, 2024, the academic symposium entitled “Religious Persecutions – Effective Responses” took place at the University’s Dóm Square building, which aimed to formulate practical responses to the current manifestations of Christian persecution.
After opening remarks by Rector László Dux and András Döbör, Dean of the Juhász Gyula Faculty of Pedagogical Education of the University of Szeged, Tristan Azbej, State Secretary for the Hungary Helps Programme and the Assistance to Persecuted Christians, gave an introductory speech on the magnitude of the challenge and the measures taken by the Hungarian Government in this field.
Emőke Tapolyai, a clinical and pastoral psychologist, then reported on her research among persecuted Christians in Hungary under the communist regime, drawing valuable conclusions for the current situation. The conference concluded with two short presentations. Szabolcs Illyés spoke on the possibilities of a scientific approach to religious genocides, and Dániel Mórocz on the details of the persecution of Christians in East Asia.
