There will be another charity sports event in Szeged this April

On April 26, the Ágota Run will be held again in Szeged. This charity sports event is jointly organized by the Csongrád-Csanád County Government Office, the University of Szeged, and Gál Ferenc University. Details were shared during a press conference on Thursday.

Ágota Run: Raising funds for a development center
László Salgó, Lord Lieutenant of the Csongrád-Csanád County Government Office, recalled that this event was first held in 2024 to support young people growing up in state care. He noted that more than 1,600 people attended, and over 12 million forints were raised.
“This year, the proceeds will be used to establish a cultural and development center in Ágotafalva, located in Bács-Kiskun County. Registration fees will support this goal: 2,500 forints for children and 6,000 forints for adults,” Salgó said. He added that participants can run various distances ranging from 100 meters to 12 kilometers, with a new addition this year being a 4×12-kilometer relay race.

János Kothencz, head of the ÁGOTA Community, explained that over four years, more than 30,000 children have visited the Ágotafalva area.
“It has become essential to establish a center that includes a 100-square-meter library and a special education development room. The Ágota Run supports these costs while also providing an excellent opportunity to bring child protection issues closer to society,” Kothencz said.

Supported by two Szeged universities and the Hungarian Olympic Committee
László Rovó, Rector of the University of Szeged, emphasized that universities play an important role in community life.
“That’s why it’s essential to be partners in such initiatives. We participated in organizing the first run for this reason as well,” he added.

László Dux, Rector of Gál Ferenc University, highlighted the institution’s mission to support those facing more challenging circumstances.
“The Saint Ágota Child Protection Service holds a prominent place in this effort, and any opportunity to assist their work is significant for our university. We are supporting the event with 5 million forints,” Dux stated. He also stressed the benefits of physical activity, encouraging everyone to take advantage of this opportunity on that spring Saturday.

This year, the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB) is also supporting the event. László Fábián, Olympic champion in modern pentathlon and Secretary-General of MOB, revealed that Olympians and professional athletes would attend the event.

The online registration platform is already available. Early registration is recommended, as the first 500 participants will receive a gift ÁGOTA Run T-shirt.
