On April 21, 2025, Pope Francis returned his soul to the Creator God in the Vatican. Below is the statement from the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
The members of the Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference received with deep sorrow the news that Pope Francis, having completed his earthly journey, has returned to the House of the Heavenly Father.
With hearts full of gratitude to the providential God, we remember his person and service. Jorge Mario Bergoglio – Pope Francis – was a living testimony for all of us throughout his life. He offered a personal example, especially in his love for the poor, the vulnerable, and the needy. We are grateful for his special connection to the Hungarian people and to Hungary, a bond he confirmed not only through his visits to our country but also through many other gestures.
We ask all people of goodwill to remember Pope Francis in their prayers, and we encourage our brothers and sisters to pray for our Church.
