From next autumn, a part-time law program will start in Békéscsaba – Signing of a ceremonial cooperation agreement

Thanks to a trilateral cooperation between the Government Office, the University of Szeged, and Gál Ferenc University, a part-time law program will start in Békéscsaba in the autumn of 2026, followed by a full-time program from 2027 – it was announced on Tuesday at the Government Office, prior to the ceremonial signing of the cooperation agreement establishing the program.

“We have reached a milestone, as a 27-year-old dream has come true. It is a personal dream of mine, since it was exactly 27 years ago that I began my law studies at the Faculty of Law of Eötvös Loránd University. I studied there because I was working in Budapest at the time. Later, after returning to Békés, I took the train to the capital every other Thursday and Friday. Even then, I decided that if by some special grace of fate I would one day have the opportunity, I would not rest until there was a law program in Békéscsaba,” shared Dr. Árpád Takács in his opening remarks, recalling a personal memory and experience.

“When I became the head of the Government Office of Békés County, I once again realized that the county was in great need of reform in vocational and higher education, of expanding opportunities, and of acquiring practical knowledge in the coming years. The first milestone in this process was when Gál Ferenc University took over the institutions of the struggling college in Szarvas, Gyula, and Békéscsaba. Thus, instead of closing their doors, these buildings reopened, and today we can proudly host a thriving and recognized university. For this, I would like to express my gratitude to Gál Ferenc University and its maintainer, the Diocese of Szeged-Csanád,” emphasized the Lord Lieutenant.
