A MODERN SPORTS COMPLEX OPENS AT THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION OF GÁL FERENC UNIVERSITY

On October 7, 2025, a press conference was held to present the infrastructure development project of the Faculty of Education at Gál Ferenc University, whose main goal is to create modern facilities for community sports on the Szarvas campus.

Rector Dr. László Dux stated that the revitalization of the Faculty of Education was made possible through a non-repayable EU grant of 1.269 billion HUF, contributing to the University’s growth and enhancing the Faculty’s attractiveness. He expressed his gratitude for the contractor’s smooth execution of the project.

Dean Dr. Krisztina Katona outlined the details of the development: the old gymnasium was renovated, the former dining hall was transformed into a workout and fitness room, and an outdoor fitness park was also created. The complex will be open to the students of the Training Institute, the Faculty’s students, and dormitory residents, and will also serve as a venue for events such as the National Teaching Competition. In conclusion, she thanked the planners, contractors, and university leadership for making the investment possible.

László Váncza, Ybl Award-winning architect, emphasized that the renovation was carried out in the spirit of sustainability and reuse, preserving the original condition of the gym built in 1906. As a symbol of tradition, a zero-energy sundial was installed where the former chimney once stood—an exemplary model of energy-efficient development.

Ferenc Bodrogi, head of Bodrogi Bau Ltd., highlighted that their company remained competitive and successfully completed the large-scale project within budget thanks to its own building material trade and production bases. He praised both the client and the architect and expressed his hope that the contractor, too, can take pride in the finished work.

Pál Hodálik, Mayor of Szarvas, expressed his delight over this urban development investment and reaffirmed the city’s strong partnership with the university, noting that the municipality also provides financial support to full-time students.

Following the press conference, participants toured the newly completed facilities, including the gymnasium, workout room, fitness room, outdoor fitness park, and the sundial.
