Dr. István Thékes, Full College Professor at the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences of Gál Ferenc University, has co-authored a research article published in the internationally renowned journal Review of Education. The article is entitled The Key Predictors and Moderators of Academic Success in Higher Education: A Systematic Literature Review.
Review of Education is the official journal of the British Educational Research Association (BERA) and is widely recognized as one of the leading international journals in the field of educational research. The journal is ranked in the Q1 quartile, meaning that it belongs to the top 25% of journals in its field according to the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). Q1 status is one of the most important indicators of scientific excellence, as only studies that successfully pass a rigorous multi-stage double-blind peer-review process and demonstrate outstanding scholarly quality are accepted for publication. Publishing in such a journal is a significant achievement that reflects not only the authors’ scientific excellence but also enhances the international research visibility and academic reputation of their institution.
The study presents a comprehensive systematic literature review examining the key factors that influence academic success in higher education. The authors analyse the personal, motivational, pedagogical, and institutional factors that facilitate—or, conversely, hinder—students’ academic achievement. Particular attention is devoted to exploring how digital learning environments, emerging educational technologies, and artificial intelligence are reshaping existing models of academic success in higher education. The review demonstrates that substantial theoretical differences exist between traditional higher education frameworks and the learning environments of the digital era, highlighting the need for the development of new, integrated conceptual models.
The publication contributes to a deeper understanding of academic success in higher education and provides evidence-based conclusions that may inform the work of educators, researchers, higher education leaders, and policymakers. The publication of this article further strengthens Gál Ferenc University’s international scientific presence and enhances the visibility of its research achievements.
